What is Workamping or Work Camping?

What is work camping?

All across the Internet, you will see the positions for both Workamping and Work Camping. Work camping is a combination of working and camping at the same location, often in an RV, camper van, or living quarters for a short-term or seasonal period. Workampers receive compensation in the form of a free or discounted campsite, free utilities, wages, or a combination of these.

Workamping can involve a variety of jobs, including:

  • Working at campgrounds, RV resorts, or other hospitality venues
  • Working at amusement parks, retail stores, or food service
  • Working in national or state parks, national monuments, or lighthouses
  • Working as a tour guide, shuttle bus driver, park ranger, or activities director
  • Operating a business on wheels, such as a flea market, mobile food service, or mobile RV repair, and truck driving

Workamping is popular with retirees, but people of all ages can work as workampers. Some benefits of workamping include:

  • Working where you live
  • Enjoying a seasonal variety of jobs
  • Flexibility
  • Working as a team
  • Finding the right compensation
  • It’s easy to find work camper opportunities

In most cases, you will need a self-contained RV. However, we are seeing more and more jobs where the workamper employer is providing some type of housing. In addition, there appear to be more jobs for couples than there are for single individuals.
